FGI, Cal West Host NAFA Summer Board Meeting

Do I Need to Change My Irrigation Program to Produce Higher Alfalfa Yields?

When alfalfa hay is grown without water stress or other problems in the central San Joaquin Valley, yields will peak during July. This yield peak is influenced by longer day length (photoperiod) and warm temperatures at that time of year. Click here for the complete article.

Alfalfa Takes Center Stage on Farm Connections Television Show

KSMQ, a public television station based in Austin, Minnesota, recently featured alfalfa on its agriculture-based show Farm Connections. The crew from KSMQ visited Gar-Lin Dairy in Eyota, MN to film an episode about forages, focusing primarily on alfalfa. Featured on the program were Dean Allen and Dana Allen-Tully of Gar-Lin Dairy, Michael Russelle of USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, Matt Yost of the University of Minnesota, and Chelsea Russell of the National Alfalfa & Forage Alliance and Midwest Forage Association. NAFA to Host 4th Annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In

To follow-up on the success of NAFA's 2013 Washington, D.C. Fly-In, NAFA is planning on storming Capitol Hill again in 2014. The 4th Annual Washington Fly-In is scheduled for February 10-13, 2014, and will build on the success of recent developments and continue to focus on the importance of research funding for the alfalfa and forage industry. NAFA is beginning to build a list of growers interested in joining this effort. If you'd like to be on the list, please email us your contact information. Act Now! NAFA Seeking Varieties for 2014 Alfalfa Variety Ratings Publication

The National Alfalfa & Forage Alliance is seeking varieties to be included in the 2014 edition of the "Alfalfa Variety Ratings" Winter Survival, Fall Dormancy & Pest Resistance Ratings for Alfalfa Varieties publication. Hay & Forage Grower will be distributing the publication to over 62,000 subscribers in their November alfalfa issue.

Marketers who listed varieties in the 2013 publication received an email with online submission instructions today. If you did not submit varieties last year, but are interested in submitting varieties this year, please contact the NAFA office. Only online submissions will be accepted; submissions are due by Friday, August 16th.
